Job Summary:
The Sales Estimator plays a vital role in assessing the cost of engineering, materials, and field labor for projects within occupied detention facilities. This role involves conducting site visits, analyzing architectural drawings and specifications, and collaborating with contractors to develop comprehensive project estimates. The Sales Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed scopes of work, outlining materials, activities, inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications. Additionally, this role involves presenting project proposals and working closely with partners to secure contracts.
Primary Responsibilities:
Bidding Based on Plans and Specifications:
- Analyze project specifications, architectural drawings, and bid requirements to confirm licensing and product inclusion.
- Organize project data in tracking software and maintain sales and project folders.
- Communicate with architects to address clarifications and monitor addenda.
- Conduct material take-offs, vendor pricing solicitations, and review quotes for accuracy.
- Draft detailed scope letters with inclusions, exclusions, and contractor notes.
- Discuss project scope with contractors, confirm rates, equipment, and staffing needs.
- Evaluate bidding strategies based on competition, location, and project design.
- Compile bids, submit scope letters, and follow up post-bid to secure projects.
- Update project tracking software and prepare transfer packets for awarded projects.
Direct-to-Owner or Customer Proposals (Non-Bid):
- Respond to leads and create project entries in tracking software.
- Collect project information and determine the need for site visits.
- Prepare scopes of work, conduct estimates, and solicit vendor pricing.
- Confirm rates, equipment, and staffing needs for field projects.
- Review proposals with the Sales & Estimating Director and submit to owners/customers.
- Follow up monthly, maintain communication, and update project tracking.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Support project engineering with scope-related questions.
- Assist project management with clarifications to the scope of work.
- Issue new recap forms for project change orders.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Ability to prioritize workload and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to collaborate with vendors, customers, and internal teams.
- Problem-solving skills to develop solutions based on gathered information.
- Proficient in general computer applications and estimating software.
- High ethical standards, trustworthiness, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
- Self-motivated and driven to succeed.
